Polyethylen niedriger Dichte ist gegen die meisten Chemikalien beständig. Darum eignet es sich ausgezeichnet für Dichtungs- und Verschlußstöpsel. Aufgrund seiner nachgiebigen Konsistenz ist es praktisch unzerbrechlich. Nimmt keine Feuchtigkeit auf, weswegen es ein sehr guter elektrischer Isolierstoff ist. Polyethylen läßt sich nicht kleben und brennt nach dem Entzünden selbständig weiter.

Low density polyethylene is resistant to many chemicals. Therefore especially suitable for coverplugs and caps. Because of great flexibility it is almost unbreakable. Does not take in moisture and therefore very suitable for electrical insulation. Polyethylene can not be glued, burns after lighting it and may discolour and becomes brittle after exposure to direct sunlight.
